The Importance of Movement

We all know movement is good for you and we should exercise, eat healthy, etc. We are already aware that having an abundance of stored fat increases our chances of cancers, diseases, and sickness. Many of us are busy and settle for sedentary lives and eating takeout several days a week because its easier and way more comfortable than running and lifting after a long day at work. In fact, most of the country has this lifestyle, and we are the most depressed, unhealthy group of people on this globe. I am all for balance, but eating processed foods ALL the time and not moving is simply not good for you. Life can be hectic, I get it. You're busy, I get it. Exercise is hard, I get it. But lets discuss why its so important to train your body and fuel it properly, and why you should quiet those excuses running through your mind.

Not to get depressing, but Americans are so unhappy and unhealthy. "Among adults in high income countries, those in the U.S. were most likely to have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, or another mental illness" (Mental Health conditions and Substance Use, 2020). 1 in every 4 adults in the United States are diagnosed with anxiety or depression. We have the highest suicide rate and second-highest overdose rates when being compared to other developed countries. More than 60% of adults in the US do not engage in the recommended amount of activity, and 25% is completely sedentary (CDC, 2022). Women are more likely to be sedentary than men. Lets pick it up ladies! You are strong and capable. The three highest reasons for death in the United States are Heart disease, then cancer, and chronic lower respiratory diseases (CDC, 2022). To be blunt, these causes of death are usually avoidable through diet and exercise.

Allowing your body to receive adequate movement significantly lowers chances of heart disease, cancers, and respiratory disease. Weight resistance training strengthens your bones and muscles which will prevent injury in the future and lowers chances of osteoporosis. Moderate workouts are proven to decrease feelings of depression and anxiety (NASM). It also increases self efficacy, which is defined as ones belief that they can complete a task, goal, or performance" (NASM). With increased self efficacy, confidence and positive body image follows. Remember, this has nothing to do with aesthetics, and everything to do with health and mindset.

Its a blessing if you can move your body, and should not be a chore. Movement allows you to work on the only thing you can't pay someone to do for you... working on YOU. You can pay someone to clean your house, write your paper, create a resume, pick your clothes, shop for your groceries, and do laundry, but NO ONE can move your body for you. The closest thing you can do is pay someone to help you stay consistent and show you how to move your body, which is a great way to start your fitness journey. Workout classes are a cheaper way to get some guidance and motivation if you can't consistently workout on your own. There is a lot of fear surrounding fitness, gyms, and clean nutrition. Many fear the judgement that may come from someone else in the gym. Here's the honest truth, no one is looking at you and no one cares. If you struggle with gym anxiety, my last post has some tips and tricks to help you. Also, I'm always here to talk ANYTIME! If I personally know you, I'm still offering free training to a few women, text or DM me if you would like a program, support, and someone to check in with you frequently.

Last and most important, your body is a temple of God! You only have one body, one vessel to get you through each day. Treat it with kindness, fill it with essential, nutrients, and move it because you can and are alive. Movement is a celebration of life, lets start acting like it is.

I'm here for you and am proud of you always!

Xx Rachel
